Darknet police seize millions in cash and crypt as a result of a special operation

As a result of Operation Dark HunTOR, police from around the world have arrested 150 people suspected of buying and selling illegal goods. According to Europol, this was one of the largest operations on the darknet.

According to France 24, Dark HunTOR was a police operation that included operations in Australia, Bulgaria, France, UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Europol says many “valuable” targets have been arrested. 65 of them were detained in the USA, 47 in Germany and 24 in the UK.

Police seized $ 31 million in cash and cryptocurrencies arrested. Drugs and weapons were also seized.

From closed dark markets, Italian police shut down DeepSea and Berlusconi sites, and German police shut down DarkMarket back in January. This particular market was used to sell drugs and stolen credit card information among other illegal products.

DarkMarket was discovered when German prosecutors investigated the web host Cyberbunker, which was actually located in a former NATO bunker in southwestern Germany.

Since then, the European Cybercrime Center EC3, part of Europol, has been evaluating intelligence to determine its targets.

Jean-Philippe Lecouf, Deputy Director of Operations for Europol, said:

“The rationale behind these operations is to alert darknet criminals (that) the law enforcement community has the means and global partnerships to expose them and bring them to justice for their illegal activities.”.
